Beetroot Burgers

Before the New Year I picked up some pre-made plant based foods in my local Aldi so I’d be prepared for Veganuary if I didn’t feel like cooking much, especially after the Christmas. I’ve tried these beetroot burgers before, so knew they would be a good meal to start with. I was going to make them with burger buns but realised they contain egg so I switched to sourdough bread instead. They only take 15 minutes to heat. So while they were cooking I made up some tomatoe salsa and a vinegarette. For the salsa I used: Baby tomatoes Fresh … Continue reading Beetroot Burgers

Veganuary

Having recently watched a few documentries on Netflix about intensive farming, animal agricultural and plant based diets and then reading more about it, I have decided to sign up to Veganuary.com I am shocked at the effect animal agriculture is having on our planet and just how much we are not being told about this industry. They say ignorance is bliss but once you watch these type of documentaries you cannot unsee what you’ve just saw. By challenging myself to make changes and become more aware of what I am eating, I hope to make a change. By sharing my … Continue reading Veganuary

Designing My Kitchen

The kitchen is my baby, it’s totally my favourite room in the house and the room I was most excited about planning when we decided to renovate. My love for food and cooking comes from my Dad. He was a chef in his past life. I used to sit and watch him make all sorts of concoctions in our old kitchen. He was also a spectacular pastry chef and I have very fond memories of him making wedding cakes and decorative pieces from marzipan. So it really isn’t a wonder why I love to cook and I love kitchens. It’s … Continue reading Designing My Kitchen

My Legendary Lasagna

Yeah I know Legendary Lasagna sounds so bloody cocky but I am honestly always asked for the recipe whenever I make this. As corny as it sounds the key to a great dish is to cook it with love. Turn on the tunes, pour yourself a glass of wine and start cooking… What you need for a large lasagna (feeds 8 people) 900g of lean beef mince 180g of bacon lardons olive oil 2 onions (I prefer red) 3/4 cloves of garlic 1 pack Picollo Baby Tomatoes 1 Knorr chicken stock pot Generous amount of fresh basil (must be fresh) … Continue reading My Legendary Lasagna

From Junk Yard to Jungle Pad

Some people look for a great place, others make a place great Anonymous Our home didn’t always look like this. In fact when Marc first bought it there was a number of dodgy characters squatting in the house. Struggling to find a place in the area he grew up in, Marc jumped at the chance to buy the house when a friend of his offered him first refusal. He jumped so fast he didn’t even see inside until the day he got the keys. Let’s just say that it was a pretty grim sight. When Marc and his brothers turned … Continue reading From Junk Yard to Jungle Pad

A Fifties Inspired Bathroom

I’m a big fan of the fifties era. It reminds me of my Nanny and I loved her dearly. I even went all out fifties for my wedding day with playful short dress, victory rolls, winged eyeliner and red lips. So when we decided that we were going to design a bathroom each during the renovation I knew exactly what style I was going to go for. The budget was tight but I wasn’t willing to compromise on style. I searched a lot of tile stores in Dublin but anything I liked was outside of my budget. I had my … Continue reading A Fifties Inspired Bathroom
